Since last month we were planning for our next adventure. We were thinking about something economical, interesting and new… So we started to search in neighborhood countries and found that Saudi Arabia has a lot a lot to explore.
We used to, as many people in Bahrain to visit Saudi Arabia only for religious tourism. This time we decided to expand our concept of traveling to Saudi Arabia and discover more about its culture and heritage.
We are going on a road trip to Madain Saleh (around 2000 km, north of Saudi), starting from Bahrain passing by Al Dir’iya historic oasis, holy cities of Mecca and Medina. Each city has a lot of sights to see.
What makes Madain Saleh special?
According to UNESCO this site is considered one of the most ancient sites in the world!! This city is similar to the Petra in Jordan and it was built by the same people and it’s named as the sister of Petra.
Why we are going on this road-trip?
Saudi is one of the most difficult places on earth to visit “as described in Lonely Planet travel guide book”
We want to get closer view and interaction with Saudi culture and heritage. We would like to document our experience through photographs and travel stories and to encourage more people to visit the ancient sites in Saudi.
We would like to thank Nikon Middle East & Africa for supporting us with one of their best cameras (D800) and lens (AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED). Also we would like to thank Gulf Weekly and Gulf Daily News for featuring our road-trip on the media.
